Does drinking coffee while nursing reduce your milk supply?

Question:
Im drinking decaf, about 5 cups a day just started back up and now it seems im not producing as much milk

Answers:
I'm not certain. How long have you been breastfeeding? At certain points your breastmilk production will naturally decrease. When you first start, your breasts often produce so much milk that you can feel engorged. However, once your body gets used to the demands for milk that your baby is placing on it by nursing, your body will only produce enough milk to meet that demand. Could this be what has happened? Certainly speak to your pediatrician or a lactation consultant if you feel your child is not getting enough milk. However, if your baby is wetting several diapers per day and having bowel movements, the little angel should be fine! Good luck!
