Sudden pain in lower abdominal area on left side?

Question:
Since I woke up this morning I have had an increased amount of pain. It started around 7:30am. It is on the left side and very low. (easiest way for me to describe it would be approx. where one would feel menstraul cramping but that is definetly not the problem) I have hurt here on occasion just recently but today is much worse. I know most people will say go to the doc. (I agree I need to) However, I have no family doc and no insurance. I won't go to the ER unless I have real reason to worry or can no longer take the pain. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas what this could be or a website to research more into it. Thanks in advance.

Answers:
there are many reasons why you are having this type of pain. first is the pain constant or does it come and go? It could be gas or maybe even a strained muscle or even pains from ovulating can occur and feels like menstral cramping I would recommed you take some tylenol and apply a warm compress (hot face cloth and wrap in another towel or hot water bottle wrapped in a towel) to see if that helps if not then I would recommed you see a doctor, your life is far more important than a hospital or doctor bill.

addendum to your response:

I am glad you followed up with your previous diagnoses of IBS - the pains that you are having are often associated with IBS( muscle spasms) and it also could be an ovarian cyst but to really make sure I think you should be examined by your doctor even if the pain goes away just to be on the safe side.

Other Answers:
If you're about mid-cycle it could be "mittelschmertz" or ovulatory pain.
Its not your appendix, your appendix is on the other side. Sometimes you get pains there because you need to go to the bathroom, and it could possibly be a kidney stone.
i had the same pain and it sounds like an ovarian cyst please go to the hospital if it gets to big and explodes it can mess u up if that is what it is
Could be apendicitis in which case you MUST go to the emergency room or it will burst. Could also be stones in your gall bladder or kidneys. I wouldn't mess with abdominal pain. If you've been in pain this long, its more than likely something serious that needs to be checked out by a medical professional.
your appendix
Check out polycystic ovaries. They can cause tremendous lower abdomen pain. Keep a watch for spotting blood. That would be the sign to go to the ER. If you have an ovarian cyst, you may have a mild fever. I was recommended to take ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) for the pain, because it helps cut the pain and fever.

If this turns out to be the cause (they will run an abdominal ultrasound at the ER), then I know of an herbal preventative. It won't help now though.

Best wishes.
It could be due to Constipation, Diverticulitis or Torsion of ovary (which happens when the ovary is enlarged by a cyst).
.............It can't be appendicitis because the pain of appendix radiate around the umbilicus and in the lower part of the right side of the abdomin.
its just constipation.. same thing has happened to me before. All you need to go is eat foods high in fiber ie: spinach, lettuce, brocoli.... That will clear ya right out;)
