I have a .what?

I went to the doctor bout 2 weeks ago. I am 14, 120 lbs, Five ft Six, and I hit puberity(w/ menstrual cycle) when I was 11. But, I had to go in for a ultra-sound and the doctor spotted a cyst in my left ovary. He said it's possible it may not be there since my last period, but I doubt that. Is it possible the cyst is still there? Am I too young to have a cyst? The cyst was only 1 cm. But I'm still worried because in the past my aunts & mother has had cysts that have kept them from having children.

Answers:
Cysts are just fluid filled pockets that will usually go away by themselves. They do not indicate infection, and certainly don't indicate anything bad like cancer, etc. Ovarian cysts are common in women of reproductive age and are nothing to worry about unless they become large enough to cause pain.

Polycystic Ovarian Disease is different and can definately affect fertility. However, this has many different symptoms and you would not usually have just one cyst.

It could be polycystic ovarian syndrome. It doesn't necessarily mean you can't have kids. Wife has it and we had a kid with very little problem. anyone can have a cyst, no matter what age. and it might still be there. i cant tell you if it will go away soon, or if it will prevent you from having kids. that will be determined in time.

my friend had them at the age 15 and she has 4 kids now no biggy just get it lasered off..

Find a ruler and look at how big a 1cm cyst is. It is so small. And you could easily have gotten rid of it during your period.

You are far too young to worry about this. And if your mother couldn't have children are you adopted?

Cysts are common on ovaries. My right one has several and my left one is completely covered with them. I had 2 children but I went through menopause very early because of the cysts. I stopped having periods at age 34 which I was really glad. Having cysts on your ovaries can cause really painful cramps at your time of the month. If you only have one and it is that small I really wouldn't worry about it. I don't know what kind of cyst you might have and I have no idea what type my wide. However, she had one removed when she was 14. She is now 58. We have 4 children and 6 grandchildren.

My suggestion is: First, take it easy. Second, get smart, search out and read material about your condition. Third, work with your doctor, pick his/her brain and keep asking until you are comfortable with everything being done.
