will a tampon hurt you if you use it for a dicharge?
Question:
Answers:
Tampons are the most harmful menstrual option out of over twenty different options because they prevent your vagina's natural cleaning functions, introduce chemicals into your vagina, dry out the vaginal walls and give bacteria a place to multiply – as such tampons significantly increase risk of infections, vaginal splitting and toxic shock syndrome.
If you use a tampon when not menstruating you are putting yourself at even more unnecessary risk, as well as this because there is no menstrual flow it means that all the vagina has to soak up is the discharge, so leaving the vaginal walls even drying and thus causing vaginal splitting that can increase your risk of infections and toxic shock syndrome further.
Discharge is normal and natural, as well as keeping the walls of your vagina moist it is part of your vagina's self-cleaning functions, it is there to wash out excess bacteria and any dirt that may get into your vagina – this is why your vagina never needs cleaning, because it cleans itself.
If you have excessive discharge, or your discharge has different texture, colour or smell than what is normal at the given time in your cycle then it can be a sign of an infection, more so if it smells bad. If there is a possibility of infection it should be treated straight away, not plugged up with tampons.
You don't need to use any protection to deal with discharge, it is normal and healthy so should be left alone, if you really feel the need you can try using cloth pantiliners or menstrual cups, however these are unnecessary and could increase risk of infection slightly, although still no where near as harmful as tampons.
See a doctor first. If it's infectious, it's probably not a good idea to keep those germs inside.
