Should I be worried that I menstruate about every 40 days?

Question:

Answers:
How old are you? If you are not old enough to be in perio-menopause or menopause, then you should not have that long of a cycle. I think you are having a hormone imbalance and might want to go get a blood test to find out which one is lacking.

There is a broad range of "normal" among menstruating women. Unpredictable or long menstrual cycles are normal for teenagers and women in their 40s. If you are a teen, you can expect cycles to even out with time. If you are nearing the age of menopause, you can expect menstrual cycles to become longer and eventually to stop. If you are not a teen or older than 40 and your cycles are shorter or longer than 21 to 35 days, there is a chance that you have an underlying problem.

Any big change in your menstrual pattern or amount of bleeding that affects your daily life requires a medical check by a health professional. This includes menstrual bleeding for three or more menstrual cycles that:

Lasts longer than 7 days.
Is very heavy. If you are passing large clots or soaking a large pad per hour for 8 hours, your bleeding is considered heavy.
Other symptoms you should have checked include:

Bleeding between menstrual periods.
Pelvic pain that is not linked to menstrual bleeding and lasts longer than a day.

Other Answers:
Probably not, but check with your doctor to be sure everything's working as it should. Better safe than sorry.
No, everyone's cycle is unique. If you are that concerned go see your doctor.
No that sound about like what my cycle does. Everyone menstruates differently so don't be overly concerned about some irregularities especially if you aren't on birth control.
I'm not a doc or nurse, but I don't think you should be worried. I guess the average cycle is 28 days, but having something different doesn't mean it's not normal for you. Ask about it the next time you go in for your annual exam.
Depends on how old you are ! Young, no you'll probably straighten out sometimes bcpills can help but I don't suggest that unless your Dr. tells you it's best because bc's can cause breast cancer, aneurysms and stokes! Older, could be starting menopause or may have some other more serious problems. Either way you need to go see your Gyno!
no thats ok
there is no unique time frame for menstruation, 30 days is just an average.

My gf is really irregular sometimes 30 days sometimes 45 days, imagine the scares i would get at the beginning curisng all condomn makers.
are you complaining about this?
Up to 45 days is fine, as long as the cycles are full cycles (not just spotting) and they come regularly. It is perfectly healthy to continue these for the rest of your life.

The danger in having less than 6 periods a year comes from the long-term estrogen effects on the lining of the uterus. When the lining isn't shed regularly, over time you can develop a condition called endometrial hyperplasia. which over time can lead to cancer.

So, you see, it isn't something to ignore if you find that getting older and/or gaining weight causes longer delays of 2-3 months or more between cycles. But you don't sound like you need to worry about that now. just keep it in mind down the road, if things change.
