Switching birth controls?

Question:
I have been in monophasic pills for years. My doctor (I gotta say I really don't trust this guy anymore) prescribed me a Triphasic pill (Tri- Sprintec) and I am not sure about it. I am supposed to switch this month, should I expect some side effects, should I change doctors and not birth control?. Thanks guys

Answers:
I would strongly recommend going to a different doc. If you're doing good on the mono-phasic, then stick with it!

Put your foot down and demand that he give you a new Rx for the mono's. If he absolutely refuses to put you back on your mono-phasic and can't give you a GOOD valid reason for changing to a tri-phasic, then DO NOT do it! Follow your gut instinct! Remember it's YOUR body - not his - and YOU need to do what YOU feel is best for YOU!

As for side effects, yes you can probably expect some if you go through with the change. It could range anywhere from spotting/break-through bleeding to heavy cramping, mood swings, VERY tender breasts, acne break-outs...all sorts of awful stuff! You'll be switching from a single chemical to a mix of at least 3 (and up to 6). Your body's going to have a FIT!
I really can't help you about the pills, since I don't take them 'cause I forget (I use a monthly injection). However, if you don't trust your doctor, then you definitely have to change. This is one of the most important relationshiphs you will have in your life, so you need to be with someone you're comfortable with, whom you respect and trust. Ask your girlfriends about their doctors, and go ahead and get a second opinion.

Good luck!
