What kind of pains I'm i having?

Question:
This is my first pregnancy and not sure what to expect. I'm 34 weeks and have sharp pains in my Virginia. They last for a split second and won't come back for hours or the next day. Are those pains the Braxton Hicks that everyone talks about? Also I know a lot of pregnant women get constipated, but I get diarrhea. I have had is for a day in a half. Called my doctor and was advised to take some over the counter medication. Is that normal for someone at my stage of pregnancy?

Answers:

yes it is normal, the cervix is getting ready for dilatation and effacement.Good luck
I'm 31 weeks into my second pregnancy, just to give you the context of my experience. I don't know what the sharp vaginal pains are, but if you are suddenly having diarrhea (and this isn't a symptom that has plagued you throughout) I would be concerned. The body usually cleans house right before birth, when I went to have my first they actually asked me how my bowel movements had been recently.

HOWEVER: that is not necessarily the case. You're pretty early to be going into labor. Follow your doctor's advice, but be alert to any more changes in your body. And maybe make sure you have the laundry done.
I have 3 kids and I got those pains too, but nobody I talked to did. Walking made mine worse, and I don't think they are the braxton-hicks, Because really, that is not what contractions feel like. As long as you are discussing everything w/ doc, You should be fine, Hormones can cause bowel upset. Just take it easy.
Every pregnancy is different. As far as the pains, you did the right thing asking your doc.I've had 3 kids and remember having these pains.I think your body is just getting ready for birth. If you see any blood make sure you contact your doc immediately!!Diarrhea is "normal" too.Just make sure you get plenty of liquids so you don't get dehydrated.
