On the pill to get pregnant?

Question: My friend is having a hard time getting pregnant. She told me that her doctor put her on birth control pill to help her get pregnant. How exactly would that work? I thought the whole idea of the pill was to prevent pregnancy. Am I missing something here? Did I misunderstand her? I didn't want to ask my friend because it's a touchy subject for her.

Answers:
No it's been done for years now. My college room-mate did that and now she has three. I think they put you on for awhile to build you up, then take you off . then Whamoo It does work for most.
