The only 100% sure way to make sure a baby is of a desired sex is called PID where they make several embryos, genetically test them, and only implant those of the desired gender. It is like in vitro fertilization, except you choose which ones to implant based on gender.
There are other methods, like the Ericcson method, where they see which sperm swim the fastest etc. Here is a site with a lot of info.

or try a fertilization dr..i think they can make it a girl or boy..im not sure though..
count 12 days from the start of your menstral and have sex on the 12th 13th 14th day.

The only way its having sex one or two days before ovulation, if you have sex on ovulation day or days after that it would be a boy.
There is no surefire way to make sure you have a girl.
From what I know (and I'm getting this soley from school, I'm 14), the sex of the child is determined by the X and Y chromosomes. XX is a girl. XY is a boy. The chromosome is determined by (I think) the genes that the man gives.
If he give an X, you have a girl, Y is a boy. (as i said)
I don't know how you would change your chances.

There are also all kinds of old wives tales like girls are conceived in hot weather and all that. Pretty much your chances are 50/50 good luck, hope she wins the lotto :)
There is only 1 sure fire way to get the sex you want, and that is in-vitro fertilisation and screening of embryos before implantation. Not fun and expensive.
Unfortunately for your daughter there is nothing that she can do to improve chances either way. It is simply a race between millions of sperm and whoever gets there first determines the sex. Unless someone comes up with a way of killing off boy or girl sperm, I think we'll just have to continue putting up with what we get.
All the other ways you hear of improving chances of a girl are really old wives tales, just ask anyone who's tried them. Or better still, an Obstetrician. They will tell you that of all women they see, 50% get what they were trying for.
So I hope she gets a girl, she's got a 50/50 chance, not bad odds really.
My parents swear by a book called "choosing the sex of your baby" or something like that. They read it while pregnant with my older brother and figured out he was a boy. Then, when they wanted me, they planned for a girl.and here I am.
I don't know if its 100% accurate, but it worked twice for them!
