i'm thirteen and i've had my period for about a year in a half, i hate to wear pads...because there so bulky and i'm always afraid i'm going to leak at school, i've tried tampons before...and i really wanna use them at school but we cant go to the bathroom during school...unless you get free time which never happens... what can i do?

Answers:
I would suggest trying menstrual cup.

Menstrual cups go into your vagina and collect the blood, unlike tampons menstrual cups are safe so they can be left in your vagina for up to 12 hours at a time, they are also less likely to leak, won't cause infections, are not linked to toxic shock syndrome, can be worn anytime during your menstrual cycle, can be worn at night, can be worn during sports like swimming, they are a lot cheaper than tampons, very body-positive, you can better monitor your menstrual flow, manufacturers are ethical, nothing shows on the outside of your body, easy to use, environmentally friendly, don't require you to carry around bulky spares, as well as a lot of other benefits.

I wish I had known about menstrual cups at your age as it would have saved me an awful lot of trouble and embarrassing situations, in fact I know there are an awful lot of women who wish they had because they are far better than tampons.
Using a menstrual cup instead of tampons would mean you would not have to worry about them at school as they can be left in for up to 12 hours without risk of leaking, you wouldn't have to go to the bathroom every few hours and you wouldn't have to carry any spares with you.

There are different types of menstrual cups; rubber bell-shaped menstrual cups, silicone bell-shaped menstrual cups, diaphragms used as menstrual cups, homemade menstrual cups, softcups. Often people try softcups first but then switch to and prefer bell-shaped cups, softcups and bell-shaped cups are very different so you may hate one but love the other, more women are using menstrual cups because they are the only safe internal menstrual option.

There are also different brands, another good thing about menstrual cups is that most brands offer a money back guarantee so you can try them for a while and if you don't like them you can get your money back. Divacup offer a full year's money back guarantee, Keeper and Mooncup offer a three month money back guarantee, and Instead softcups offer free samples from their web site.

Hmm. That's a tough one. First, i know it's kind of embarassing, but try talking to your favorite teacher about it. They might be able to make an exception in that kind of a case. If they are firm on the rules, read the tampon boxes and check to see how long you can leave them in. TSS (toxic shock syndrome) is a worry, but most boxes say you can leave them in for 8-12 hours. I think maybe what you'll have to do is wear pads on your heaviest days, but then use tampons when you're lighter. BUT! look up the symptoms of TSS so that should you start feeling the symptoms, you can get medical help right away. Also: if the school is firm on the rules, you need to start a petition or something. Not only is it not fair for mature girls, but it's actually dangerous for your kidneys to have to hold it all day.
