No period for over 8 months after stopping pill.?

Question:
I have had no period since November last year including the one at the end of my cycle for that month. I ended the pill the end of october. I have had no period and i have taken several tests an i am not pregnant. What could be wrong?

Answers:
This is not an uncommon problem for many women. The increased amount of hormones in birth control pills/patches are so high that they throw off your body's chemistry and it sometimes takes a long time for things to get back to normal after you've discontinued their use.

Sometimes if a woman is experiencing a great amount of stress or big changes in her life, it can cause her body to stop cycling. You may want to reflect on the past 8 months of your life and evaluate if stress is a major factor in your life.

There is also a chance that you could have developed cysts on your ovaries which would prevent you from ovulating and having a period.

The best advice is to make an appointment with your OB/GYN as soon as possible to rule out possible cysts and give you a blood pregnancy test (even though you said you have taken several (home) pregnancy tests already).

Your OB/GYN may also decide to do an entire blood work up on you to make sure your hormone levels are appropriate. I'd also have him/her check your entire Endrocrine system, including your Thyroid and Pituitary Gland.

Your OB/GYN can also discuss with you other possible causes for missed periods.

r u pregnant.think bout it ? go to a doctor
You should see a doctor. They can give you something to make you have a period. You want it to be released from your body.
Just wondering what is your weight?
have you been stressed lately? are you eating normally? I would try going to a family planning clinic as they are more sympathetic. 8 months is a long time after your last pill. Your body might take a while to adjust however it has been a while . I think you should see either your doctor or got the FPC again soon
anything can do it. stress, weather, weight loss/gain, depression. your pd is based on hormones and anything that affects your hormones affects your periods and your body. if your doc sees no urgency then I'd go to another doc.
It can take up to a year for your periods to return after coming off the pill. After I came off the pill, I didn't have a period for 7 months, then it was 3 months until my next one. Apparently it's quite normal. - don't stress about it.
