Does your body release an egg anytime in the cycle of the birth control pills?

Question:
Hi, I was recently disputing with my boyfriend about birth control pills and periods... When you are on the pill, Your body does not release an egg because it believes it is already pregnant... once you stop the hormonal pills and take your sugar pills, this allows your body to release and egg, right?...Then once your egg travels down to the uterus un fertilized, it will then not attach itself to the uterus lining and the lining will shed which is the period right?...

Is it possible I have this all wrong and that you do not need to release an egg at all to have a period? And that when on the pill, both the hormonal and sugar, your body does not release any eggs at all? Let me know what im thinking and if its right or wrong...thanks
Lori:)

Answers:
It depends on the type of pill ur taking:

Oral contraceptives contain chemicals called hormones. One type of pill called the combined pill has two hormones called Oestrogen and Progestogen. The combined pill stops the release of an egg every month - but doesn't stop periods.

The mini-pill only has Progestogen in it. It works by altering the mucous lining of the vagina to make it thicker. The sperm cannot then get through, and as the sperm can't meet the egg, the girl can't get pregnant.

I'm pretty sure the body doesn't release an egg at all. When you're taking the real pills your body does think it is pregnant. When you come onto the sugar pills, im lamens terms, your body goes "Oh crap... she wasn't pregnant. What do we do now? Oh, we'll deal with egg next month." and you get your period. You don't need to have released an egg to get your period, it's the shedding of the lining in the uterus walls to make way for a new coating for the new month.

However, in some freak events people release an egg late in the cycle or while on sugar pills and wind up getting pregnant. It's very rare, ( >1% probability) but if you want to be 100% safe, use a condom as well.
