Scoliosis and work?

Question:
For those with Scoliosis. Has it affected you at work? I have scoliosis and i'm afraid that it might interfere with my major. I want to become a dental hygienist. What do you think? Should I just go for something else?

Answers:
almost all dental employees at some point will develop back trouble. i think if you use correct posture that you will do okay. if this is what you want to do- i don't think it will impact your scoliosis any worse than any other jobs in fact, it may not be as bad on you.

Other Answers:
It depends on how bad your condition is. I would talk to your Dr. He should know how you are progressing.

No don't give up your major, check into back supports straps or possible medication, I to have it and I gave up cosmotology school b/c of standing on concreate 24/7 but I wish I hadn't good luck i have very minor scoliosis and it hasn't gave me any problems at school, sometimes after standing for a longg time it starts to hurt but only for a little but and you can take advil for that. If it does interfere with you major its not going to kill you like if your doing dental work with a patient and your back starts to hurt it isn't going to stop you from filling a cavity. best wish, good luck & much love Nikki Scalia Nqt0705@yahoo.com

Why do you want to be a dental hygienist? my mom has been both a dental assistant (23 years) and a hygienist and she hated being a hygienist because all you do is clean crap off of peoples teeth and some people are really disgusting. there are better jobs out there.

First of all it depends on how bad it is and if its causing you any pain. And for being a dental hygienist you shouldnt have much problems anyways.
