Vaginal smells are not just related to hygiene but also related to. nutrition. Bodily fluids and discharge are the main 'cause of vaginal scent and you will find that a healthy diet containing fruit and vitamins would help. Alternatively, it could be the 'cause of a vaginal infection in which case a doctor should be consulted. It is called vaginitis. It is not due to poor hygiene. It is due to a yeast infection (candida albicans).

If it is the first time, the patient should go to a doctor for a through examination and treatment.

If it is recurrent, there are over-the-counter products that can be used. One can use yogurt as a preventitive. Eat plain yogurt about 3 times a week. The acidophilus bacteria in the yogurt neutralizes yeast.

This is also the same fungus that results in jock itch, athlete's foot, ringworm and other skin rashes.

Gardnerella vaginalis is a germ commonly found in the genitalia of both sexes. In women, it infects the vagina, producing a thin, greyish-white vaginal discharge with small bubbles in it. The most striking - and perhaps the only significant - characteristic of this germ is an obvious fishy-smelling odour produced when it comes into contact with a mild alkali, such as that found in toilet soap. This effect is so specific to this organism that it is used a laboratory test for it. There are no other symptoms, but both the organism and the odour can be sexually transmitted to a partner. The infection tends to be stubborn , but responds well to treatment with the drug Metronidazole.

Visit your local GU clinic and they will check you over and you can get this drug free of charge.

Hope this helps x
