I stopped taking birth control...?

Question: I stopped taking my birth control almost a month ago. I did it for personal reasons, but what I need to know is...will my first period be horrible? Will it be on time? I have been on birth control for about 7 years so my body is used to that hormone level. How likely would it be that I would get pregnant quickly? Not that I want to or anything..but doesn't it take time for al the hormones to get out of my system. I want to have sex with my man but I don't know how at risk I would be of getting pregnant (not that if I did it would be horrible, we hate condoms!). Girls let me know whats up. Any people with first hand experience would help!

Well, firstly your fisrt menstruation should be rather painful, sorry, but as you've said the body will have to readjust. This should take about 3 to 4 months. As for the safety factor, it is best to get checked out with a gyni as some people fall pregnant at a drop of a hat and others only find out when they go off the pill that there are other complications that the pill actually masked. Get checked out to be safe and ask your gyni all the questions you want, even if they sound stuipid even to you. This will only help you in the long run.

I knew of a girl who was on the pill a very long time and she went off of them and immediately got pregnant. I was on the pill for 10 years, got off and never got pregnant, never had a family. So I don't know if it is the body's reaction, the hormones, the certain brand name of the pill that I was taking or what that caused no family.

I assure you though that you need to definitely use condoms, for safety sake as well as for keeping from getting pregnant. People cheat on each other sometimes, and unintentionally, and things happen. Sometimes condoms break though and you could get pregnant.

well if you dont wanna get pregnant, and u dont like condoms, AND ur worried about how ur period will be..the obvious choice is to just go back on the pill..isnt it?

I was on the pill for 16 yrs. before I stopped. The 2 months before I had my tubes tied, I was as nervous as a chicken with a fox in the hen house. VERY ill at ease, afraid I would conceive. Everyone is different on this count. Some get pregnant easily when first off the pill, others take years.

It took a while for my system to get back to normal. I always had scant periods, and they continued to be very light. Now at 58 yrs. old and not menstruating any longer, life is grand.
