How long does it take for the depo (pill) to get out of your system?

Question:
i came off the depo in may and hav'nt had a period yet does this mean it is still affective?

Answers:
Hi, i dont think it means that it is still affective, from talking to others and when discussing this with my GP, your organs can take a while to get functioning fully again. It is still only 2 and a half months since u stopped, if i was you i would give it another couple of weeks / month if no period i would go to my GP. I would of thought ure GP would give further advice and possible request bloods for hormonal levels. Is there any chance u could be pregnant? I used to have injections for hormones no depo (pill) and it took my periods a good 4/5 mths to return to normal, at this stage i wouldnt worry to much. Have a look on the net at information on the injection which should inform u of a time when ure periods should return. If u dont want to get pregnant i would continue to take contraception.

hope this helps

I don't know about Depo in pill form but I was told Depo shots take up to a year to work out of your system. As for not having a period yet, that doesn't seem normal. When I can off of Depo (shot) I had my period within a month or so.
I was on Depo for almost 6 years, I came of it 6 years ago, and it took almost 18 months for my menstrual cycle to come back to normal. I used other precautions just in case. But everyones body is different, so you may be lucky abd get back to normal within 6 months. I think it also depends on the length of time you have been on it.
I only had 1 shot of depo & afterwards I didn't have a period for 9 months but as has been stated it's normal for it to take a while in some people. And no that doesn't mean it's still effective you've gotta use another form of birth control.
