you should take this question with you and ask the nurse, she will give you everything in full detail, and answer your questions on different kinds of birth control. Its her job and thats what you are paying for so why not get it all first hand. from a professional.
The gyn. will probably ask when the last time you had your period was--when it started, ended. They might ask if you have any questions. If you bring up birth control, they will probably go through all kinds of methods with you. There are different kinds of birth control pills, the depo provera shot, IUD's, condoms, spermicide, the sponge, birth control patch, and probably even more that I'm not thinking of.

The doctor may also examine your breasts and discuss with you how to do self-exams. He/she, once they actually do the procedure, you should try to relax as much as possible--the more nervous and uptight you get, the more likely it can be slightly painful. Some doctors tell you every step of the way what they're going to do--that they're going to insert their fingers at that time, etc. In my experience, they will use a speculum to sort of "hold you open." They will use fingers to feel for abnomalities, but also use a swab to run tests for abnormal cells. It really doesn't take all that long. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it isn't like it's real painful. Just try to relax and remember that you're doing what's best to keep healthy. Oh yeah, they also might feel your lower abdomen, pressing down, asking if it hurts.
They are just going to ask you your medical and sexual history. Make sure you tell them that you are a virgin because they will use a different speculum on you. They basically put a speculum inside you take a look around and swab your cervix. This might be slightly uncomfortable for you since you haven't had sex but nothing to worry about at all. I just had one last week and didn't even feel it it was over in one minute. But I remember the first time I went a few years ago before I was sexually active and it was slightly uncomfortable but really nothing. There are so many different kinds of birth control out there it just depends on what will work best for you. There are the pills but you have to remember to take them everyday and within 2 hours of the time you usually take them. That wasn't a good option for me I couldn't remember to take them everyday. Another one is the patch, I was on this one for about 2 years. You change the patch once a week and it is a visual reminder (this definetely helped me) since I would always see it when I got in the shower. Another is the ring, I went on this after the patch because it was giving me bad migraines. If you get any kind of headaches a lot the patch would not be a good option for you since it has the most amount of hormones in it. The ring is kept in for 3 weeks and then taken out for a week. So it's once a month and easy. You can not feel it once inserted and can use a tampon with it. I used to just circle the day on my planner when I had to take it out to remember. There are others that you can discuss with your doctor but those are the most common. Oh and don't go on the shot (depo) I have heard horrible things about it. Hope this helps!
