Mild Dysplasia?

Question:
I went to the doc recently and they told me I need to get another procedure done when my pap came back with mild dysplasia.. I was just wondering if anyone else has went through this?? Should I be Worried?

Answers:
When I was pregnant 2 years ago I had an abnormal pap. Mild dysplasia simply put means you have a growth of abnormal cells, these cells need to be removed because they could eventually turn into cancer. Do not panic they are not cancerous yet but left untreated they could become cancerous. They remove the cells to try to prevent that from happening. (They waited until after I had my baby to remove mine.) The procedure does not hurt as you have no feeling in your cervix. They go through the vagina and use an instrument to remove the abnormal cells, then put this really gross stuff in there. You may experience some mild bleeding and discharge that looks like coffee grounds for about a week (this is normal). You will not be able to have sex for a week either. They also strongly encourage you to have a pap every year because these cells could come back. Check out this link for more info.

Get a second opinion. Do not delay. Follow the instructions of the doctor that you trust. Take a list of questions with you. either read them to the doc, or hand the list to the doc and get answers.

Mild dysplasia is an abnormal growth of cells. It is usually pretty easy to take care of, but it has to be treated because it can develop into cancer I have had mild dysplasia for 20 years and haven't had any
surgeries, when I was finally able to get my doctor to breakdown
the ratio of women who develop cancer after haveing being
diagnosed with mild dysplasia it was something crazy
like 1 in 100,000. So I just make sure and have my pap every
year to monitor it. I have had it and also had the procedure done. The procedure was simple with a little discomfort but well worth it. After going through pap's every 3 months for a total 2 years I was very happy to go back to having just 1 pap a year.
