why would gyno want to do a biopsy for a pap that came back abnormal cells? Shouldn't other things be done 1st

Question:
had pap smear about 2 wks ago, gyno's office called yesterday and said it came back showing abnormal cells..not sure what that means for me, could mean alot of different things in general I know. But I didn't get any other details, because I was in shock. The nurse that called said My gyno wanted to schedule me for a biopsy..what I don't understand is why..I mean..shouldn't they like do other things first and biopsy as last resort? I mean another pap..ultrasound..or theres another test called colposcopy..Should I be worried that she automatically wants to biopsy me instead of other things? This pap is the first time I've ever gone to this gyno..want to make sure this is necessary also and not a money racket..any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

Answers:
No.

The whole point to a pap smear is advanced screening looking for cancer. If there is the slightest possibility of cancer don't you want it treated before it consumes your body? GET THE BIOPSY.
A biopsy IS the next step!
Cervial cancer works fast, and if those cells came back abnormal they need to know why! Don't be scared, just get the biopsy done, and then worry about the results when you get them.
Abnormal cells can show up after you have a baby, or if you
have HPV. Not necessarily cancer in most cases, but you need to know what you're dealing with, now!!!!!!!!!!
I had a test once that had some "abnormality" but it was a possible STI. I got tested without hesitation and came out negative. But I was glad I did the test. It is best to be thorough. The health care professionals should have enough experience to know when and what is required. I agree with the other person, PAP smears are primarily used to identify cervical cancer. If there is some issue DO NOT HESITATE. It is best to rule it out than end up delaying what could be your life.
