Does anyone have a "heart-shaped" uterus?

Question:
I was told I had a "heart-shaped" uterus when I was getting an ultra sound for really bad pains in my stomach. This had nothing to do with the pains but the woman said it was good we found that out now because it can cause difficult pregnancies. Anyone know if they have this? Have you had kids? Anything abnormal?

Answers:
The medical term for what you are describing is called "uterine didelphysis". It means that you have two uteri and two cervices.
You can get pregnant in one side or another, but rarely in both sides at the same time, but it has been known to happen. In some women, one side can hold a pregnancy to term and the other cannot. Most of the time it does not pose a problem unless you have the aforementioned condition. If you always get pregnant in the side that cannot hold a pregnancy to term, you will always have miscarriages. I have worked in the ob/gyn field for 18 years, and have never seen anything go wrong when women have this condition. The doctor just has to be a little more cautious than usual while following you during pregnancy.

No.but my heart is shaped like a uterus. Really. My doctor said I have a "pear shaped" heart which is very rare. My aorta also looks like a fallopean tube. Now how wierd is that??

My girl friend has a heart shape uterus and she just had her first child. Nothing was abnormal with the pregnancy. She just had to get more check ups then normal and also she had her baby boy three weeks early because there was not enough room for him! well idk if i have one if i figure out i do i will know what it means :)
