Your doctor probably won't let you go for more than two weeks past your due date though, they would give you drugs to induce your labor.
As for delivery hurting? yes it does- thank god for epidurals!!

well your due date couldnt have came your usually pregnant for 40-42 weeks. Why didnt you know that? Have you even went to a doctor? Yes it hurts but its totally worth it and you dont remember the pain at all.
One of two things. Either your doctor will freak out and tell you that you have to give birth or horrible things will happen, or you will wait and have the baby a week.or two.or five later. Personally, I would feel very nervous having a doctor who freaks out at birth, but many women go through it and are convinced that the doctor "saved" their baby.
As for pain during the birth. Some women have a completely painless labor. Others think it's the worst thing in the world. Both are very unusual *if* the woman has actually gone through it!! (That, too, is rare these days--most women have an epidural at the earliest possible moment and have *no idea* how painful labor is!!) Most women find that labor is painful but tolerable. It is much easier to be in labor if you are surrounded by people who love and support you.
The birth itself doesn't hurt for most women. (I'm the exception--ouch!!) Even if it *does*, it's over quickly and you get to hug the little person you've been waiting months to meet. You don't *forget* the pain afterwards, but it doesn't *matter* anymore. I'm not a professional athlete, but I've been told it's like running a marathon--you "hit the wall" and don't want to go on, but if you do, you feel afterwards that it was all worth it.
