Can my birth control be causing my acne?

Question:
I had a baby 8 months ago. When she was 3 months old I got the i.u.d. I haven't had any problems with it, but now I'm breaking out like crazy. I never had problems with acne, not even as a teenager. Can that be the cause of my acne problems? If so any suggestions on how to solve it besides getting the i.u.d. removed?

Answers:
If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

I can't conceivably think of a way an i.u.d would be causing acne. It's a mechanical form of birth control, not a chemical one, so it shouldn't affect your hormones.

It's much more likely that it's simply the result of the hormonal changes you've experienced after pregnancy. Sometimes, it can take a fair amount of time for your body to return to normal - I'd give it a few more months (and buy a good concealer) and then see a doctor if it still hasn't cleared up.
The acne could also be caused by hormonal changes in your body from being pregnant. Try a facial cleanser designed to remove dirt and oil from your face. If you are still breaking out, see your doctor; you may be allergic to whatever is in the IUD. OR - You could be pregnant again.
Yes, it is possible your BCP is causing your acne breakouts. You need to find out whether you pill contains an androgenic progestin. If it does, it could well be causing the breakouts. You need to find a low or non-androgenic BCP and it should clear up. Good luck : )
