Question for mums of girls - any reason a girl can't use tampons as soon as she starts her period if she wants
Question:

I have four girls, two have reached that age. I put all three options under the sink. pads, tampons, and softcup . One will only use tampons although she will only use the light ones because larger ones make her uncomfortable. The other hasn't but they are available if she wants them.
Girls are funny, I remember being so embarrassed to buy tampons or pads in the store when I needed them. My daughters are the same. They also didn't really want to talk about tampons or pads even with me. I left out material in their "reading room" and let them decide. I have brought up the topic, and I think that it is important to bring it up, so they know if they need to talk I am there. One daughter has now asked questions, and will ask me to get her something if she has run out. The other hasn't yet.
A great resource is beinggirl.com, specifically http://tinyurl.com/pwhhm all about tampon use for girls. I am still wishing that they would use the soft cup. If you don't know what that is, it looks similar to a diaphragm, but they have a plastic cup to hold liquid and they last twice as long as a tampon, up to 12 hours. It is not a new product but is becoming increasingly popular.

No reason whatsoever, although remember they can be a little tricky at first, so she may want to start off with a towel to get used to her period first. Then once she's relaxed with this, she can try tampons.
Well, she wouldn't be use to it and may forget to change it, which can lead to Toxic Shock Syndrome if she leaves it for too long, also if her hymen isn't broken it might be tough to use too. She can, but in the first place she is getting used to the whole idea, and it is not easy to teach a young girl to to use tampons, so I would suggest that towels are used, and then when she is ready she can use tampons
Im not a mum but my mum always told me I couldn't use them whilst growing up because some peoples body have some sort of reaction to them and it goes into shock or something. They are also dangerous if the girl forgets to take it out before putting in the next one. Young girls are more likely to forget.
I don't see why not, other than the clearly stated health risks, which could occour to anyone, not just girls. My daughter started when she was 9, and didn't start using tampons until recently, 13. If your daughter is comfortable with trying them, let her. Much neater, especially at school, and at night.
No reason at all. Just make sure she knows she has to change the tampon regularly so she does not get toxic shock syndrome. And make sure she gets the right size tampons. nope. you can use tampons at any time. but you should ask your gynecologist, just in case.. he/she`ll tell you more
I'm not a mum, but I'm a girl who has always used them from day one. No problem!!
When you first get your period you have to wait 2-3 years so you can get used to your cycle, and whether it is heavy or light. when a girl first gets her period, a tampon might be a little scary.
No reason why they can't just be aware of "TSS" Toxic Shock Syndrome. Hello, when my daughter first started her periods I was unsure but while at school the nurse gave her one to use. I then realised that I should of allowed her to use them ages before as she felt so much comfortable and there was less chance anyone would realise. There is no medical reason why not to, it's just personel preference.
I'm not a mum, but I'm 14 and I started using tampons on my third period and I think they're much better than sanitry towels. And I'm fine using them. The doctor said it was alright to use them if I wanted to.
No, she can start to use tampons if she perfers. Let her make the desicion whether she wants to or not, but speaking safely, its fine, they come in a range of sizes anyway.
My mom didn't have a problem with it. She told me how to use 'em and then left me to try it (it took a couple of tries, because she didn't use the tampons with applicators). I was very happy about it though. Less mess, especially if the girl is an athlete or just very active. I will be honest with you, i am 18 years old, so im not a mother, but i used tampons from day 1, i have never used sanitary towels, and i was still a virgin when i used then, so this isnt effected, i say i reccomend to any woman/girl to use them from the start. dont worry. there is no reason why anyone cant use them
