Is douching good or bad for women? Support your answer.?

Question:

Answers:
OTC (over the counter) douching is usually not recommended by medical experts and is generally considered unnecessary, however moderate douching seldom causes problems. Excessive douching, especially with detergent douches, will dry the vaginal walls and promote abnormal bacterial growth by changing the pH. Natural secretions serve a purpose and the fact that you or your partner might not like the smell or appearance of any discharge is something you should raise with your gynecologist. Like I said, moderate use to please your partner is probably OK. If so, use the plain unscented vinegar and water type before sex to improve the taste and aroma if he/she doesn't like the natural smell. Douching afterward serves no useful purpose. It won't keep you from getting pregnant or infected. Douching just once after your period is OK, but again not necessary. Moderation is the key.

Other Answers:
douching kills the normal flora in your vaginal tract which helps prevent infection, it also changes your ph to alkalitic which makes it more prone to infectiion...
bad, because it gets rid of the good bacteria that the vagina produces to fend off the bad bacteria.
"Douching is a process that uses a container with a small hose to flush water or some other solution ino a woman's vagina. Years ago women would do this after their period to clean themselves out, but now we know that douching actually wipes out the healthy bacteria that naturally exist in vaginas and increases the liklihood of being infected with sexually transmitted infections and getting vaginal infections, like yeast"
well it depends it can be good to clean everything but it depends on the chemicals that are in the douche. vinegar is the most common ingredient but the ph is a little low to be a great thing to do everyday (4 as apposed to the 4.2 on the low end for females) and your ph is important. read the box or look online for recipes and read directions if it sounds like a good thing try it. but if you have odor you need to see a doc odor means bacteria.

It's not good if you do it on a regular basis. A woman't vagina ids designed to be self cleaning. Douching interferes with this and can also cause irritation as well as introduce bacteria into the vaginal canal.
I dont think is necessarily 'bad'. But dont do it too often. A nice feeling after a period, but not after ever sexual contact. The healthy vagina cleanses itself every 8 hours. I read that years ago and so I quit doing it.
I'm my own source--a grown woman, normal pregancies and now menopausal. )did I say THAT?)!
douching kills the normal flora in your vaginal tract so yes its good
I wouldn't recommend it Last time I douche I got an yeast infection.
BAD!!!!! Douching kills the natural flora that we have in our bodies!!!!!!!!!!! You need to investigate the reason you are douching because there is an underlying problem there........good luck...
Douching is never required, but plain potable water, on occasion would be ok. Listen to the nurses or doctor replies posted.
Its not neccassery, normal hygeine should keep u clean, However douche has been popular over the centuries as a form of birth control especially in catholic countries that dont agree with contraception. It was normal for women to use a vinegar douche to try to kill sperm, or lemon juice ( but vinegar was cheaper) i got this info from my great grandmother who had 14children cos the church told her she had to, she also told me about the reason her and all her catholic friends used douches, but cos it was against the faith it was always spouted as a cleanliness thing rather than a contraceptive one.
