Why do antibiotics make your nails grow?

Question:
Every time I've had to be on antibiotics, my nails grow and are a little bit stronger. A friend who often has to take them says she has noticed the same thing. Can anyone tell me why?

Answers:
That's not a normal side effect of antibiotics. However, nails are very sensitive to the rest of your body's health: if you're feeling generally run down or not getting proper nutrition, your nails definitely can suffer. It's possible that by simple fixing whatever's wrong with you that requires antibiotics, your nails are getting a boost to their health.
