Question:
i had a biopsy done 2 day ago and i'm now anticipating the results.. if my cells are found abnormal i'll have to get the cryosurgery, which i'm afraid of as it might affect my chances of getting pregnant in future! does anybody know about crysurgery and on whether i should let my doctor do it. i really want kids and i'm afraid... help!!

Answers:
If the biopsy comes back as cancerous or precancerous, you need to have some type of surgery to remove the cancerous or pre-cancerous cells. It would be way worse to not remove them! Talk to your doctor about your concerns. He or she should tell you the risks and benefits.

Other Answers:
Cryosurgery involves freezing the abnormal tissue on the cervix with a special probe in the office. It does cause some mild cramping during the procedure, however this usually resolves in several minutes afterward. The biggest complaint afterward is a bad malodorous discharge from the vagina that may take a few weeks to resolve. Cryosurgery is very effective in treating dysplasia, however about 10% of women may have a recurrent lesion in the future. Certain types of dysplasia can not be treated with this technique.

You will likely have a very watery vaginal discharge for 2 to 6 weeks. This may be mixed with some blood. You may need to use menstrual pads during these first few weeks.

*Cryosurgery will not affect your menstrual cycle or cause infertility.* Complete healing of the cervix takes about 3 months.
