Question regarding Staging in cancer diagnosis?

Question:
When a staging number (1) in this case after a D & C, comes back from a biopsy result, is that the same as when one has a pap smear and it's classified, when abnormal cells are present as a 1 thru 4? A family member is going to have a hysterectomy following a D & C that showed a 'stage 1', which indicates cancer of the uterus. Another family member had a grade 3 from a pap smear and also had a hysterectomy--all turned out fine there. Just wondering if these results are one and the same as far as the 'staging' is concerned? Or is there a difference in a 'stage 1' from a D & C than if it had come from a pap smear? I hope I'm clear on this description. It's upsetting whatever it is. Thanks.

Here's a great website to explain it.

there is a difference as you are talking about different cancers-cancer of the cervix and cancer of the uterus. the "grade 3 from a pap" may have not even been cancer at all, may have been a bad dysplasia, many many people confuse the 2. for cancer to be obtained on a d&c this is more likely endometrial cancer or cancer of the uterus. cancer of the cervix has nothing to do with cancer of the uterus-you really cannot compare the 2 like this
