My mate has got painful lumps in the armpits, under the skin but they have raised the skin. Any ideas?

I had a small raised lump in my armpit, went to the doctor and it was an in-growing hair from shaving that had got infected. It just went away on its own. So it could be that or it could be an absess. It also could be something more serious as previously mentioned, the only way to be sure is to go to the doctor and have it checked out. Lumps should always be checked out by a doctor just in case.
