Is an IUD right for me?

Question:
I have been thinking about getting an IUD so I've been doing some research. I keep reading that it is only good for people in monogamous relationships, which I'm not in. Can someone tell me why it is recommended only in monogamous relationships?

Answers:
The reason is that the IUD can make you more prone to pelvic inflammatory disease if you catch a venereal disease, and since the IUD is so good at preventing pregnancy, most women who have it are not going to be as good about making sure their partner is using a condom.

Pelvic inflammation can cause, among other things, infertility, so it's nothing to mess with.
