Should women under 30 be able to get a tubal ligation?

I'm 26, childfree by choice, live in Arkansas and have struggled since I was 18 to find a doctor willing to do a tubal as a form of permanent birth control. The latest info I've recieved in my search for a doctor is that they would do it when I was 30 and past my "child bearing years." It's my child bearing years I'm worried about!

If your choice is to be childfree and you seek permanent forms of birth control, should you be rejected because of your age or should you be respected for your educated deciscion and be allowed to get this procedure done? Anyone had this done at a young age? How did you go about getting it done?

I did. In my early 20's, but I already had two children. I was told if I'd only had one child, I would have had a problem finding a doctor to perform the surgery. The doc's are protecting themselves in this sue happy society we live in.

I believe that (basically) it's up to you- age doesn't matter. You seem to have thought deeply about this and you know what you want and you now what will happened once it's done and you seem ready to deal with it. I think you should be able to find a Dr who will do it for you at the age of 26.

That being said....

When I had my second son, my husband and I pretty much knew that we were done having kids. I knew I was going to have a c-section so we asked my Dr to preform a tubal ligation. He talked to us about it and he brought up some important points like.....what if (God forbid) something happened to my husband and later on down the line I remarried and wanted kids with another man? What if in 5 years I wanted another kid? What if (God forbid) something happened to my kids, would I want to have more later? The points he brought up were hard subjects to talk about, but I'm sure glad he was blunt with us about it. We decided against having it done and now I'm so glad I did because we are seriously thinking about adding a 3rd baby to the bunch. :)

I had mine done at age 21, but I also had 4 kids by that age. Most doctors wont do it if you havent had a kid. All I had to do was tell the doctor I didnt want anymore kids and I got mine done.

I'm 24 and I had mine done last year. All I did was discuss it with the doctor and her and I both agreed that it was what I wanted.
