My girlfriend wants to have sterilisation? What are the side effects?

Question:

Answers:
this depends on what type of sterlization she wants done.

keep in mind that a doctor can refuse to perform the procedure if he feels she is too young-most younger women end up regretting the decision later in life...

endometrial ablation is a procedure in which a balloon is inserted into the uterus, filled up with scalding hot water and then blown up-this kills the lining of the uterus, preventing it from shedding, which in turn stops her periods permanently-which causes sterlization. not real sure about the side effects of this procedure-it's fairly new.

the other option is to have her fallopian tubes tied ( i had this done in 2003 after my 3rd child). the doctor will make two small poke holes-one right above or through the belly button and the other right above the pubic bone. one is to insert the tool used to tie the tubes and the other is used for the camera so the doctor can see what he's doing on a large tv screen. the doctor will then clamp the tubes closed with special clamps, make a small loop and the cut and burn each end of the tube-sealing them permanently. the clamp is then removed and the procedure is done. mine took about 20 minutes and recovery was fairly quick. i had cramps for about 3 days but no more severe than my period cramps and i was about walking around the same nite i had it done. i didnt spend the nite in the hospital-i was sent home about 4 hours afterwards.

the only downfall i've experienced from having my tubes tied are that my periods are extremely heavy now-twice i've had to be hospitalized for it and i've been declared anemic. but i've also had children and i take antidepressants-both of which effect the hormones in my body which effects how much i bleed.

your girlfriend's doctor should explain all options AND side effects to her for every possible procedure she can have done-make sure she gets all of her questions answered and understands everything before she agrees to anything or signs any paperwork
Dunno...
