Why are fermintation tubes evaluted at 24 and 48 hours?
Question:
Answers:
They are evaluated to determine if growth has occured. There is usually a small inverted tube inside the larger main tube. Gas will appear in the inverted tube if growth of aerobic organisms has occurred. They are checked at 24 hours because certain organisms grow that fast, and at 48 hours because that is basically the maximum for the organisms they are looking for. Once gas has been determined to be present, the sample is further tested to determine what organism is growing.
