How would i get my periods to stop all together??

Question:
ive herd you can get like an injection to stop them or you can hav an operation or something.. i was wondering if anyone new of any other methods and which is the best one to use.
Also im 16 so would the doctor consult my parents if i decided to get the injection ??

Answers:
everything is confidential at the doctors or family planning. if the injection your talking about is Depo Provera, research it first because it doesnt always stop periods after the second injection and can ruin your chances of being a parent in the future as it can make you sterile. although some people dont get a problem there are many people who have had extreme problems after stopping it and some have bled from the time they have had the injection and then for months after, some even years so be very careful when weighing up the pro's and con's.

the only operation i can think of is a hysterectomy that no-one will do on you at your age because you may choose to change your mind in future and may want to have a family but by then it will be too late.

go on netdoctor.com or wikipedia and type them in.

im on micronor which is a mini pill and can stop periods in 50% of women on it within a year and extended use can cause this to happen too but you have to be very reliable in taking it as you only have 27 hrs between 1 pill and another. i take mine at 9pm every night.

this pill is a lower dose of what you get in the injection so it is safer and doesnt take as long for it to get out of your system, so it's all good!

it lessens period pain and cramps and makes your period lighter too. so even if it doesnt stop your periods they are a lot lighter and perhaps last a couple of days instead of 5-7. mine normally lasted 3 days so mine are very light now that im on this pill and will p[robably disappear with continued use!

go to your family planning centre and talk to a nurse or go see your GP to talk through your options.
i don't think it is true because it is part of the puberty thing of woman
ok i am guessing there is a medical reason you want to stop your periods, the contraception injection stops them but some people gain weight when they have it, whatever you chose to stop the periods make sure you look at all the contra indications along with it. x
The depo injection may NOT stop your period. Many women bleed for months, sometimes into their second and third injection. I would never ever recommend the depo provera shot for the many negative side affects (google depo provera lawsuit, you'll see!).

There is Seasonale which does four periods a year and Lybrel which is a new pill out that is supposed to stop them totally.

PLEASE don't get the injection!
you can not (i think) .. the injection your talking about is realley the contraseptive pill ..wish there was another way i would of done it by now .. if u do find out please do let me know
yes you can get the depovera injection every three months which is a contraceptive which stops your periods
the dr cannot tell your mother due to patient confidentiality, its against the law
The injection is a birth control and stop periods for about 3 months before you need your next injection. However, there are a few side affects, when you are not having your periods, your eggs are still being stored in you as they are not being released and this could lead to blood clotting.

I think you are too young to be thinking about messing with your body like that.
what you have too think off is the implications of having the injection ...

You do not bleed for a while but you still have the symptoms

It is not wise to halt your periods as you can cause damage ..

I used to continue with the pill without a break for many years and the end result was i can not conceive naturally and i have had 14 miscarriages before this was discovered ..

Periods are for a reason .. do not be taking medication just to stop them as you will suffer in later years ..

The injection is the most effective against unwanted pregnancy .. but it does have its side affects which is something you must consider..

As you are 16 the doctor is not allowed to discuss you with your parents ..

Try talking to your mum as she has been where you are and will be very supportive us mums are once we know what is wrong
At 16 in the UK its confidential and you don't need a parent with you. But at 16 I don't think you need to think bout that now and I think it would be for a reason if you could actually stop them.
The only way for them to stop altogether would be to have an operation called a hysterectomy. If you had this you cannot have children so Im sure at your age you havent even thought properly about it I think the injection you mean is for birth control. If its because of the painful periods you can get tablets for it.Ring up Brook advisary and have a talk to them they will not inform your parents.
No such thing, the blood has to go somewhere. Only other way is to have your ovaries removed and then you have the menopause to think about, plus brittle bones and breast cancer. I know what I would choose.
Yes if you have the contraceptive injection this is supposed to stop your periods. They will not tell your parents, it is patient confidentiality. You wouldn't be able to have an operation though.
best thing is the injection every 3 months.
if you go to the doctor it is confidential only way your parent will know is if you tel them.
i think the operation you are refering to is a histerectomy (wrong spelling sorry) and the doctor will not do this, you are too young without any complications.
Take care
xx
As your 16 the doctoe keeps everything confidential. You should go on the injection. You have it every 3 month in your bum cheek and it leaves you without a period!! Its awesome! When I first had it I spotted (bleed very lightly) for a month or so but i've had no trouble since!!
