I am about to start taking birth control .?
Question:
I am mostly curious for some names of pills, that maybe focus mostly on cramps, but also a birth control pill.
And I would like an answer from someone who has tried the pill ... and been helped in these areas.
Answers:
every pill i have ever been on has helped my horrible periods, personally i like what i have now the best. i use the nuva ring. it doesn't help with the periods any more than pills did (my dr. swears it's exactly the same as taking pill everyday), but i don't have to remember a pill everyday. i have to remember once a month to take it out and a week later to put a new one in. that's it. i love it! no, you can't feel it when it's in and it doesn't hurt going in or coming out.
other than birth control, the best over the counter meds for my cramps has been aleve. it works best if you start taking it a few days before your period starts. ask your dr. how much you can take, mine told me i could take more than the recommended dosage, but you should ask your dr .what he/she thinks is good for you.
Your doctor will take note of your symptoms and prescribe the pill that he thinks is best for you, but don't be surprised if you have to try a few different ones for three months each before you find one that works for you. I had to try 5 or 6 different pills before I found one that was right for me.
Pretty much all of the pills will help with your cramps - one of teh ways that the pills work is by reducing the amount of lining that builds up in your uterus - less lining = less cramps to shed it. If your periods are that bad, you might want to consider something like Seasonale, which cuts down on the number of periods you have per year - you only get one every three months, and it is MUCH lighter. I take a similar pill to Seasonale, and my period lasts for three days, and is light enough that I only use panty liners, not even enough for a tampon. I get some vague cramping on the first day, but it's not even enough to bother with painkillers.
