Do you have long lasting Periods?

Question:
I am 25 years old and my period on the norm last 10 days it feels like I am always on it.I dont bleed for 10 days but go off and on the whole time sometimes a few days longer then 10.I feel the effects of PMS before I start and it goes up and down while I am on my period until I bleed again then I feel a release.I am very overemotional and irritable and it effects me severely. When I am off my Period I feel great but when it hits it feels like it knocks me on my butt.I have had 3 children and I am now fixed.I just dont know why my period is so harsh on my body and last so long?I have bad leg cramps and I mean it aches down to my bones.Like I said above while I am off and on my period when I finally bleed it is like a release and I feel better and not so cloudy anymore.Does anyone else experience this?I talked to my doc long ago and he said something about getting me on birth control.I havent seen him in over a year and I dont think he took me seriously the last time.

Answers:
I would suggest you go on birth control my cousin went through that and it was actually unheathy for her cause it caused great depression and loss of iron. The birth control helped alot and she is down to more normal periods. Most of all though go to a few doctors about it. Get diffrent opinions.
sounds scary, but no i dont have long long periods, but i know that you can always go to the doctor to have them check it out and give you pills/shots .*best answer me please**
well i think ur normal cuz my moms period sumtimes last 2 weeks.
I had that happen to me once. My doctor said it was an imbalance of hormones. Getting on the pill might work for you. But I would def talk to your doc or another doc and they can get you on some medication to balance you out.
it shouldn't last 10 days it should only be 3-5 day you need to see a dr.
sounds like you have a hormone problem going on. you really should go back to the doctor or if you don't like that one see a different one.
I do hope you are taking vitamins and iron to help replace all that lost blood.
Well i think that you should go back and speak with your doctor and let him/her know that you really need to get something done. I could imagine all that they could do is put you on birth control
It sounds like you need to go and see your doctor, you should not be suffering like that. Go back see him, try the birth control, but you may find that the best solution for the problem is a hysterectomy (removal of the womb).
Maybe your doc didn't tak you seriously last time, but thats not a excuse not to go see him, or another dr. about it. You need to see a Dr. about thisif you need 2nd, 3rd, even 4th opinions don't hesitate to get them. You and only you know your body, get it checked out!
mine also last FOREVER.
and its like horrible
a lot of bleeding.
the only thing i think
is birth control
can help cut it down.
find a new GYN. a friend does this, she bleed so much its like it never stops. it will go for weeks. she is only 36. and this has been happening for a few years. for her it is menapause. also cysts, and endomitiosis. my sis in law, very early menapause, age 32-34 i think, but hers went opposite and it just stopped. went on b-control and hormones to bring it back. then said heck with it. and no longer has periods... at all.there could be fibroids, cysts, endomitiosis, or menapause. get get a THOROUGH EXAM>. my mom had severe problems that required a full hysterectomy at age 36. had she gone soon it may not have gotten so bad. but it was ok in the long run. she already had 3 of us.
Have you considered and Endometrial Ablation? Its a process by which the lining of the uterus is removed/destroyed, usually by burning- sound awful? Its not really, many doctors are doing this procedure in office now.
I had it done more than a year ago, I went in at 09 am (I chose to sleep through procedure) was home by 11, had bad cramps for 1 day, and went back to work the next-
End result? No period ever again, and it did not mess with my hormones-I will still go through menopause normally when the time comes.I also had a great reduction in PMS symptoms and cramping. Not everyone no longer has no periods, about 50% I think and another 40% have short light periods, and for 10% it dosent work at all(nothings perfect!)
This procedure is permanent, you cannot carry a child after it is done, as the uterus can no longer support a fetus.
Best thing I have ever done- its given me back my life!
