Left sided pain is generally not as serious as right sided pain due to the fact that there is a lot going on on the right side like appendix, liver, ascending colon, pancreas, kidneys, etc. Usually left sided pain is indicative of possible wind or constipation, pulled left flank muscles or possible, spleen trauma or ovarian problem depending on the site of the pain.
Don't take any non-prescribed pain killers except for your basic paracetamol or brufen based products (as long as you can tolerate them and read the instructions), but do make an appointment to see your doctor.
If you bleed unusually from your vagina or rectum go to your ER department and get checked out or if the pain becomes unbearable.

Yes, go back and insist they run some tests to see what it is, don't let them dick you ar ound, all pain killers do is mask what could be a serious problem!!
sounds like it could be either a kidney infection or an ovarian cyst. Is the pain more on you back?? If so, it's prolly your kidney. If it's in your front lower abdomen, might be a cyst. Either way, I would make a dr's appt. asap.
Phone the hospital and ask there advice .

You should at the very least have had an x-ray and your urine checked for infection. I would go back to the hospital and have them check your urine for infection and if that is negative I would have them x-ray my back for possible injury and if that doesn't get you anywhere they should possibly check you for kidney stones.
well its a good thing it's not on your right side or it would be your appendix!!

What kind of hospital that gave you only painkillers and didn't look for the cause of the pain? Is there choice? Go to another then.

If the pain is unbearable, you should go back. Be very specific as to where it hurts. If it is left side of your abdomen --- specify whether it is upper or lower. Tell what type of pain it is -- throbbing, constant etc and tell your doctor on a scale of 1-10 what you would rate the pain as.Sometimes when you are not specific about the pain, the doctors may not take you seriously.
It could be just a trapped nerve..but if your worried don't hesitate in going to A+E, that's what they are there for.

you need to see a gyn and get an ultrasound, you may have a uti - if the pain is persistant then you need to see a specialist

I don't know what your insurance situation is, but a trip to the hospital is usually HUGELY expensive. My own deductible (the part I pay no matter what) is $1,000 for each emergency room visit. So if you can stand it, you might be better off going to a "doc in the box" or, better still, a regular doctor first thing in the morning.
BUT MONEY ISN'T MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR HEALTH. I wish you had been more specific about the pain. Is it up high on the left side? Under your ribs, or below your ribs? Toward the center of the body, or way out on the left side? More towards the back or more towards the front? Does it feel like a muscle strain, or is it more inside, like an organ?
A mere Pap test is not enough, and shame on them for not doing more. They should have done blood tests at the very least, and possibly some kind of imaging like ultrasound, xray, or an MRI.
DAZZA is right, the left side is less scary than the right, BUT you still have a kidney on the left side, an ovary on the left side, and the possibility of some kind of intestinal or stomach problem on the left side. And you could be one of those rare humans who has her appendix on the left instead of the right.
IF YOU HAVE A FEVER GO TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW. IF THE SKIN ABOVE THE PAIN FEELS HOT, GO RIGHT NOW. If you don't. it's up to you if you can wait until morning or not. I'm not a doctor, and I'm not YOUR doctor. You definitely need more help than "here's some painkillers, go away."

A friend of mine had something very similar to what you describe, but different, she was having sex with her husband and she felt a terrible pain in her side like an ovary, she felt it during the day.
Her hubby told her to go to the gyn and well one of her cyst exploded go figure.
Definitely go back, if you have a sharp pain that doens´t allow you to move, definitely go back you can have a cyst or other terrible things, maybe it is your apendix and you don´t know.

Anytime you experience severe pain, even if you only left the hospital an hour before, GO BACK!
That your Pap came back normal, they need to check for an ovarian cyst, kidney or bladder stone, something that is causing the pain. They can run a urinalysis to check for crystals that may represent a stone.

i would defenatly go back to the hospitle or at least make an urgent doctors appointment somthing may hav rupptured for all u no gooo.
