HELP! for gyno's only. question.?

Question:
ok. i just got married. and i do not want a child right away. so i went to see about getting on the pill. i just finished my period sunday the 22. went to the doctor on thursday the 26 and was prescribed ortho tyi-cyclen. she said that i was to start it the sunday following my period. i started it the same day i got it because my sister said that i could go ahead and take it b/c it did not matter. so i did. and my stomach had horrible cramps and my abdomen. so i called the doctor on monday the 30. and she said that it was doing me that way because i wasnt supposed to take it then. so my question is when do i take it. and is it supposed to do me like that?

Answers:
Like your doctor said, take it the Sunday after your period. Even if you still have your period, you still take it. You want to start them as close to your period as possible so that near the end of the pack is when you'll get it and you will be on the placebos. Also, for the first couple of weeks [1-4] when you start the pill, you need to use a back-up method because your body needs to get used to the pill.

If taken correctly [and at the same time every day] you shouldn't have any problems with it. If you do, go back to your ob-gyn right away and get a prescription for a new pill. It may take a while to figure out which pill is right for you.
The best thing, sweetheart, is to call your doctor's office and ask them these questions. Anything else would be risky to your health regarding side effects from the medication or an unwanted-at-this-time pregnancy. Don't risk it. Just call them. They will understand.

Good luck!
Call your doctor sweetheart. They WILL understand!
Do what your Dr. told you too. Why did you follow your sister's directions? Is she a health care provider?
