Question for anyone who's had the ESSURE procedure done?

Question:
I had the essure done on Thurs. I was told I would have a little spotting for a couple weeks, but I've had heavy bleeding since immediately after, after calling the DR I'm assuming it's because I opted to take BC pills instead of getting the DEPO shot like they wanted me to. The DR also gave me antibiotics and said to take them for 5 days, what I'm wondering is what exactally are the antibiotics for? I cannot take the ones they gave me, they make me sick, should I call and ask for different ones or is it really that important that I have them? Has anyone else experienced this kind of bleeding or any infection or anything after having this done?

Answers:
The anti-biotics are to stave off infection. The clincher here, is you're more likely to be sterile faster if you get an infection. So, if you can't take them, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's kind of odd, though, since my doctor gave me anti-biotics by injection. Anyway, I had my Essure procedure done on Monday and so far, I've had very little bleeding and just mild cramping. If you're bleeding a lot, I'd call the doctor to make sure your uterus wasn't perforated or anything like that. There shouldn't be very much blood, since there's no incisions for this type of procedure.
I've never had the procedure done, but I would go back to the doctor and tell them whats happening and see if there are any alternatives for the antibiotics that you can take, and if there is another form of contraception that you can do, if you really don't want to get the shot.
I have not had the procedure done, but have researched it because I was going to have it done. (Got Mirena IUD instead) More then likely the bleeding is from the pill and yes you need the antibiotics because going up through the cervix could have introduce bacteria up there. Please call your Dr and have them actually answer your questions for your own peace of mind!
Hi, I had Essure done back in 12/04. Heavy bleeding is definitely something to look into, though I really doubt that it would be from the bc pills.
The antibiotics are more than likely being used prophylactically... in other words, the doctor prescribed them just in case of infection. You should let them know that you're sick on the ones you were given and you'll be prescribed another kind.

You really needn't be on the pill or the shot, I wasn't. My husband and I used condoms until the HSG was done three months later.

I had an ablation done at the same time as the Essure, so my bleeding was a bit heavier than just spotting/bleeding after Essure. I hope that your bleeding tapers down in the next few days. If it doesn't, then another visit to the gyn would be warranted, in my opinion. I wish you well.
