Really bad cramps?

Question:
I hate getting my period, because every day that I am on it I experience unbearable cramps that cause me to cry. I used to go to the doctor about it, because I was also kind of irregular and it would worry me. Anyway, she told me to take 3 tylenol or advil every 4 hours each day I have my period. But I don't like putting that much medication into my body. I also take a centrum vitamin each day because I lose a lot of iron. Is there anything else I can do so that my cramps who be so bad, and so I don't have to take so much medication?

Answers:
Well you can take hot baths or showers, exercise(crunches help), you can place a heating pad on the area, or drink hot fluids(coco and tea)!
I'm glad your taking the vitamins.
But I also had this when I was younger and the doctor actually suggested that I go on the pill it really does help! It's not always given just b/c you have sex.
And if you have a hard time talking to your mom about it talk to your doctor first and ask them to suggest it to your mom. Maybe that will help!
Also check to see if there is a planned parenthood in your area. They will see you if you are under 18 and give you the meds free as long as you don't tell them you have insurance, and its completely confidential!
So that may be a way to avoid talking to your mom. But I would try to deal with her first. It's hard but it's usually not as bad as you anticipate.
Good luck and feel better!
i take a perscrition my my pediatritian called ponstel... but i get really bad cramps and sometimes that doesnt work too...but most of the time it does... but the next thing up is birth control which is really suppose to help
try switching your meds to a persciption pain reliever like naproxen, you only have to take 1 pill twice a day. eat plenty of bananas, they really do help a lot. make sure you are getting a fair ammount of exercise all the time, if you are fit cramps are supposed to lessen. when you can, just take a hot shower and try to sleep it off. i had really bad periods too, so i started taking the pill, and now i only get it every three months
Try heat. I used to hold a coffee pot, the kind restaurants use, Round glass ones, when I was working, waiting tables . I got a couple of minutes off and just hugged the coffee pot. Sure helped, then I started using a heating pad at home. Wow, what a help. I don't know if those heated medicated pads in a box. like Thermal wrap might work?? haven't tried
exersize and the cramps wont be as bad
Drinking lots of milk, reducing caffeine intake and unhealthy foods are good ways of reducing the symptoms of a period. I also use Pamprin which works better for me than anything else I have ever tried. The heating pad also helps.

One more option, (it really works-and it's a little silly). Try sitting on the floor, on your knees (legs tucked under you). Stretch your body forward... hands on the floor. It creates a soothing pressure on your abdomen as well as stretching the lower back, relieving the tension.
