Should i go on birthcontrol?
Question:
also, whats the chance of me getting pregnant if i go on it?
Answers:
You can check with your local Planned Parenthood office; most will give contraceptives to minors without a parent's knowledge.
You DO need to see a doctor and get a full exam done before getting the pills to rule out the possibility of pre-existing health problems that the pill might complicate.
I do NOT recommend the patch, as there has recently been a class-action law suit filed against the company, because of SEVERE increases in blood clots directly related to the hormone levels in the patch.
Efficacy ratings of the pill are about 95% if used EXACTLY as you should use them (daily, using backup when necessary, etc). Pills are WAY better than condoms and withdrawal for contraception.
The only way not to get pregnant is not to have sex. Pill are more effective in preventing pregnancy. If you go to a free clinic you can get the pills without your parents knowing. If you go to your regular doctor, I dont know if they will find out or not. Yes, you do need a prescription. Just remember take the pill the EXACT SAME TIME EVERY DAY! That is the most import thing with pills. There is a window of time if you forget to take it, but taking it the exact same time is most effective.
well the only way to not have a pregnacy is to abstain from sex so it is unlikly but very possible to get pregnant. You can get birth control in many states without parental consent if you are over 16 (18 in some states) at a planned parenthood or you primary care physician. The patch is a terrible product and I doubt it will be on the market much longer. Try the Neuvaring and give it a while before deciding on it. The only problem with pills is forgetting one (and you will) many times you feel ill when you take it and the next pill the same day to make up for the missed dose.
BIRTH CONTROL CAN KILL YOU. Make sure your normal OB/GYN signs off on it so that you can live a long, healthy planned life.
go to your nearest planned parenthood and get it free most of the time and there is doctor client confidentiality. so no they can't tell your parents , just don't give them your home number as a contact number.
Try a pill or the nuva ring, NOT depo, the patch, Norplant or anything long term. Research the different forms of birth control out there.
Don't' forget to use CONDOMS, they will be your best friend if you let them.
you have to go to a doctor to be on the pill. if you aren't comfortable talking to your mom about it to make an appointment with your family doctor, you should go to Planned Parenthood. It's confidential and you don't have to have insurance. the pill is 99% effective when taken as prescribed. but they will do a pap smear and take your blood pressure to make sure that it's ok for you to be on it, they are a great source of information and really understanding people.
In order to get birth control pills you do need a doctor (most likely a gynocologist) to prescribe them for you... unless you go to planned parenthood.
Being that you are going on them because you are sexually active the doctor will also have to give you a pap smear and possibly a pelvic exam (some doctors would do the exam and smear even if you weren't sexually active, so don't lie to them to get out of an exam).
As for your parents finding out, the doctor CANNOT tell them without your permission due to the HIPA laws, so everything you say or do in there would be between you and your doctor.
Being on the pill is about 99% effective, however, my brother and I were BOTH born on the pill so I recommend using a condom anyways!
Hope this helps. Email me if you have other questions. :-)
yes, you need birth control. Yes, the doctor should be prescribing this--talk to your local Health Dept. first and see if they won't help you.
Nothing is 100% (except not being active) but many of them are 98%, which is good!
You need to think about your parents involvement-you know them better than anyone. I'd like to see teenagers talk to their parents, and at 17, they should accept your decision to be active. However, you will always be their little girl, and the emotions will be involved. Do the best you can, and when you are 18, then you can be more in control. Please, don't make a big mistake and have to go to your parents to tell them "I'm pregnant". That's the hardest thing I've ever done to my father, in my opinion.
Live well, be careful
