How long until my Ortho Tri-Cyclen birth control is effective?

Question:
I have conflicting information on how long I am supposed to wait to have unprotected sex (i.e. without a condom or another form of birth control). The gyno told me that generally everybody waits a month after taking their first pill. HOWEVER the instructions that came with my birth control told me to start taking the Pill on a Sunday following the start of my period (which I did) and to wait until the NEXT Sunday for the birth control to be effective.

Who do I trust? The manufacturer (because they have to be avoiding huge lawsuits from pissed off women if they get pregnant from having sex after the first week)? Or my doctor... who NATURALLY should know what he's talking about?

Answers:
There are differing views and opinions because humans are NOT an exact science.

Based upon literally decades of study done by the medical community and assuming that the pill is taken EXACTLY as you're supposed to, you will have full contraceptive protection after seven full days of usage.

However, based upon doctors' working experience in the field, they know that the start of pill usage is far from exemplary, and mistakes DO happen, and so recommend one full month's usage before coverage can be assured.

Bottom line: its up to YOU. If you are absolutely STRINGENT about the pill usage instructions, you will have no problems after 7 days. However, if you think you might forget even one time during the first month, then you might find yourself back at your doctor's office for a pregnancy confirmation.
i would wait until that sunday. It's a longer amont of time, so you can only be safer, right?
Everybody is different.
I say wait an entire month, using a condom whilst on the pill.
That way, your tracks are covered! :) GOOD LUCk!
There is no safe way of not getting pregnant. a person cannot sue because birthcontrol is only 99.9% affective and they didnt state it as being 100% affective. there is that chance of you getting pregnant and being that .1%. so i would listen to my doctor because he knows you and wants to help u and keep u safe. not some manufacturer
