Dose a Pap smear hurt?

Question:

Answers:
hurt - no. Awkward and uncomfortable - yes.
Just try and relax - it's a relatively quick procedure - and no, it doesn't hurt. You can feel that your doctor is scraping your cervix, but it doesn't hurt.
Besides, being uncomfortable is a very small price to pay for early detection of cervical Cancer, HPV and other problems.
Good luck!
ive never had one, but i imagine so.
You might experience some discomfort from the palpitation part of the exam (when the doctor presses on your stomach), especially if you've got a full bladder. The pap itself is very quick, and the most you should feel is small pinch or cramp that lasts only a few seconds when the doctor is scraping the surface-cell sample from your cervical Os (opening).

However, if there is definitive pain, tell your doctor right then and there. It would be the optimum time to determine what's causing the discomfort.
when they do the swab part on your cervix it feels like cramps from your period! it doesnt hurt long its just like a few seconds and just breathe deep and relax and take some advil if you want before hand
There is a little pressure and you get kind of crampy, but otherwise it shouldn't really hurt you.
Yes it does a little bit, i take ibruprofren prior to my appt to ease discomfort.
ive had two..and i never felt anything
make sure that your dr uses the right tools. for example, if u r a virgin, make sure she/he uses the virginal tools. trust me, i learned the hard way that there IS a difference!
Last year my pap was painful. But I did not feel the doctor scraping my cervix or cramp up. It just hurt when she put in the speculum.
