Bleeding after a smear test!!?
Question:

Yep, normal- not always but most of the time bleeding does occur, just as cramps, almost like you are having a period coming on. But it stops- keep in mind they scrape the walls inside with a brush- or now q-tip type thing and scraping causes bleeding inside where most women will not bleed externally, only cramp some, while others may see spotting after having it done.
Totally normal. The pap is done with a small brush and comb like tool. They scrap your cervix. The bleeding will stop soon. Don't worry. If it gets worse or you get pain, call the doctor.
You don't mention how long ago you had the test and how long the bleeding lasted after the test. A small amount of bleeding, very small, immediately afterward could be normal. If this continued on for an extended period of time, then you should be checked out.
It's happened to me before, and I've got a perfect cervix, or so my gyno tells me
If you were close to your period before or after you have a higher chance of bleeding after the test. It's completely normal! I always try to schedule that appt. in the middle of my cycle for that very reason it happens to me if i'm to close to my period dates! The bleeding should only last a few days and be very light, if more than that call you doc!
I have never heard of bleeding after a smear before and I've had plenty and colposcopies too, which is a closer examination of the cervix.I would suggest that if you continue to bleed and it is not a period go back and see your gp.
it is not at all uncommon, the current method of using a plastic brush that is swivelled in the cervix, is more successful, but also more traumatic than the old stick that was used previously.
Yes I would say totally normal. My daughter has had bleeding every single time her smear is done since she was 17.Now 28. The lining of the cervix is like the mucous membrane in the nose: plentifully supplied with tiny blood vessels.Every test has come back completely normal, in spite of an experienced clinic nurse saying she had not encountered it before.Don't worry.X
