Scared about first period!! What do I do???

Question:
I am scared about my first period. Our school had a program to tell girls about this so they don't worry but I was too scared to ask some of my questions. Please answer some for me!! Periods go on and off on and off. How do I know when my period has stopped? Do I wear pads and tampons all the time even though my period has stopped for a while? What do you think is better? Tampons or pads?

Answers:
Every woman is different. Periods usually last 3-5 days, but some like mine last a full 7 days. You will know when it stopped when you're not bleeding any more. As for pads/tampons, You are best off using pads because you are still young and they will be more comfotable for you. You only have to wear pads when you are on your period, but if you feel like you need to wear something just to make sure you won't leak, you can buy pantiliners and wear them all the time. You need to remember whether you are wearing pads, pantiliners, tampons, what ever to always change them! Whenever they are full or when you go to the bathroom. Main thing i can tell you is not to worry!! Sweety you'll be fine!! Talk to your mom, she'll be excited for you and be very glad to share her stories and help you out.
Good luck!
and congrats!!
Use pads first it is nothing scary.. all girls go through it!! Ask a parent what do do...it is really no big deal... the only bad things are cramps but u can take medicine for it!!

IT OKAY!! Goood Luck
Pads because like you said it won't always be flowing then can a few hours later. With tampons if your not flowing then it can cause toxic shock syndrome. Usually you will at first just wear a pad or panty liner to makes sure it has actually stopped. But if you go a day with out it then usually it means it is done.
well dont be scared yes theyre painful and annoying, but if wanna keep track of when ur period begins and ends, mark on ur calendar the 1st day u got it untill the last day u got it. and the next month wear pads/ tampons around the same time and youll be fine!:D
o and i personally think pads are better bc u cant get infections or anything if wear em 2 long, if u wear a tampon more than a dayi heard u can get really bad infection:(
Aww i remember this age lol!
dont worry its all good, it'll be second nature after a couple times, well, periods usually last like, a week , its done when no more blood or fluid is coming out, then about 30 days after it'll come again, then last like a week or less, ect, its a cycle, i think tampons are better WAY better it takes a while to get used to them but then when u do u'll be glad ya'r! trust me! u dont need to wear pads or tampons all the time even when it is stopped, just sorta count and guess when ur next one is coming and try and get prepared, well, i wouldn't worry about it its not like a flash flood ur first time u'll get used to it all after a few times! dont worry
ok... im 12 y. old and i have already had my period and i use pads... not taampons... dont be scared it doesnt hurt tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... much... calm down.. u can tell when it has stopped when theres no more bleeding... ok;;~~~~ and i think both of them are good as long as they give more protection... since u didnt have ur period YET u shoud be aware tht it can come ANYTIME!! and dont get scared REMEMBER all women have periodz...ok.. tc..love ya.. and god bless u
The good thing is you are informed about what will happen to your body as opposed to it's being a total shock to you. (which was what happend to my grandmother...they didn't discuss such things when she was coming up). You will have your period for many years. You will know that it has stopped when there is no more blood. You do not have to wear tampons or pads when you are not bleeding. Everyone's body is different, but generally the period is about every 28 days. You can keep track of it on a calendar so you are prepared. For beginners, tampons might be scary. When I want to be extra secure, I wear both, but when I 1st started periods, I only wore pads. If you want to go swimming or do sports, tampons are more convenient. Have you considered talking to your mom or another close female relative about this? The following links may answer many of your questions.
Don't worry. I thought that there was going to be this big blood flow that would be very noticeable and stain my clothes. Your first period will probably be light. Periods at first are very irregular, I had mine then 3 months went by before I had another but it was at the same time of month.
just wear pads at first they are easier. there not scarey at all you just deal with it at the time.
your period will come once a month...you know that it has stopped when you stop bleeding and no u don't have to wear pad's or tampons when your not on your period and thats probably best...however you can wear a pantiliner if that more comforatable just in case u start your period unexpectedly. and it doesn't matter what you use when ur on ur period when it comes to pads or tampons whatever makes you comforatable. Ok well i hope i answered your questions. If you have any more ask your mom or another adult female you trust.
Good Luck!
I think pads are better for the first time.I still wear pads.My periods are heavy. You might forget that you are wearing a tampon. It can cause death.

My period last for 7 days.It changes colour on the 6 and 7 day.Evryone is different.
Ok, well at first your period won't be as regular until about a year, so for a while (about 6 months) use pads and this time will let you figure out your flow ( light, med, heavy.) Then i HIGHLY recomend using tampons, they feel cleaner and not like a diaper; but if you like how pads feel look ect. then wear em! I personally like tampons. And I recomend either Tampax light (bc they are lights so they are good for small bodies) or Playtex sport/ gentle glide ( simply put ' they glide gently' bc they have a plastic applicator, but the lowest absorbensy is regular) I also recomend that you get unscented whether you choose pads or tampons bc the scents can irritate 'the land down under'. GOOD LUCK!
ps... if you do choose tampons try to change them every 4-8 hours or you can get tss ( an illness that can be fatal) and remove your tampon at the end of your cycle and dont put a new one in until it starts again. if you want to use a pantiliner (super thin pad) in between periods, they are good bc they dont cause tss and dont feel like diapers.
