Possible ovarian cyst??
Question:
I phoned the surgery this morning to check the appointment date and the receptionist said I was being scanned for a possible ovarian scan!! Firstly how can the doctor not have discussed this with me at the appointment and secondly the receptionist told me to call the hospital myself to get appointment - when I did she said the scan could be 10 weeks away!!
If it is a cyst isnt 10 weeks too long to wait?? I am really nervous now!!
Anyone had a cyst that could give me a bit of advice- I am aware that it could be nothing but best to know what I could be facing!!
Answers:
I don't think this sounds like an ovarian cyst to me. Not if you can actually feel a lump, but if it is then 10 weeks probably isn't too long to wait, these things grow quite slowly and the doctor wouldn't make you wait that long if they suspected there was something majorly wrong. I had an ovarian cyst last year and it was fine, most women get them and then they burst and disappear when you have a period. Don't stress yourself out as you will only make it worse, just relax and go and see the doctor again and tell him you are worried. They will be able to put your mind at ease far more than asking questions on here - speak to a professional!!
If it's an ovarian cyst u wouldn't be able to feel it that way. I'm sure that test is used for many other things than ovarian scans. If I were u and as distressed as u sound, I'd call the dr's office & speak to him or a certified nurse to ease ur worry but not even the dr can tell u what it is for sure...that's why the test, yeah?
10 weeks is abit long but that's the nhs for you - they will only give you a closer date if they think it's urgent or if your doctor sends them an urgent referral.
But seeing as your not having any problems they have indicated that they will give you an appointment date 10 weeks from now.

Doc knows the best. Probably he does not consider it to be an emergency.
Well i've had ovarian cysts and u cant feel them so i dont think u hav a cyst! Also many cysts can be harmless like mine. All u need to do is keep an eye on them.
Don't fret, Stacey, if it was an ovarian cyst the test would be over already!
Get ahold of your doctor's office and speak with him or his head nurse right away. It WAS very unprofessional of your doctor not to discuss this with you. However, there also could have been a mistake. Make sure your doctor actually ordered this test for YOU. Until you talk to your doctor you won't know anything for sure.
Doctors are only people, after all.
