Birth Control for the first time!?

Question:
Alright, well, I'm 17 yrs old and have decided to get birth control. I'm going to my local womans clinic for it. I've decided to get the pills and I had some questions for those of you who know/are or have taken them. I know everybody is different, but I was wondering how its worked for you.
First, I was wondering what side effects do they have on your body? Are your periods different?
Second, can you have sex while talking them?
Third, how effective are they?
fourth, have they made your period better?
fifth, I'm scared about the paps. How long does it take? and what do they do?
thanks in advance, and please no rude comments!

Answers:
Okay
1. side effects: Some women gain weight on the pill, but not all...I guess it is a hormonal thing. They generally give you shorter, lighter period with much less cramping. Also, can help with acne.
2. well, of course you can have sex...that's why they invented birth control pills! So you can have unprotected sex without the pregnancy risk. Of course, only have unprotected sex with someone that has been tested and free of all STDs. If you aren't sure, use a condom!
3. I believe the pill has about a 99% effectiveness rate.
4. Yes, see #1
5. Doesn't take long and is barely noticeable. All they do is take a swab of your cervix. The most uncomfortable part is when they put the metal spreader in there and open it, but it is only slightly uncomfortable...not painful at all.
hey! we are of the same age!
and is planning to take pills too!
what are you using?
the majority was positive, I had little to no cramps and my periods were lighter, nothing physically about me changed, but the first couple months you may spot every once in a while but only a little. The negative was remembering to take the pill everyday, and and once a week I would wake up feeling nauseous, and yeah you can have sex while on the pill but also use condoms cause even though they are suppose to be 99.9 percent effective, a lot of people got pregnant I know who just used the pill without a condom. You should talk to a gynecologist about it. I did when I got the pill and asked what she would do during a pap test. But I haven't had one yet since I'm not sexually active.
