Amoxillin for urinary tract infection?

Question:
can you take amoxillin for a urinary tract infection?

Answers:
Keflex is one of the bes meds I have found for UTI's. If you think you have one you should go to the dr to get checked out. Uristat works well for pain. Just becareful it can stain your underwear because it makes you pee orange.
Amoxicillin is an antibiodic (a close relative of penacillin), but it may not treat a urinary tract infection. Consult a doctor to find out for sure. Also, if it is left overs from a previous prescription, I highly reccomend NOT taking it, as that can cause more harm than good in the long run. In the mean time, if the pain is what is bothering you, a drug called Azo-Standard is available OTC which will help with the symptoms.
Unless we're doctors, we can't really tell you as Amoxicillin comes in different doses. What I would recommend is that you take yourself to either your Gynecologist (if you have one) or medical doctor and have them give you the prescription for an antibiotic. If you take Amoxicillin on your own, there is a chance that you won't have the right dose or take it long enough to cure your UTI (urinary tract infection). Spend the money and at least you know it will be taken care of.
Amoxicillin treats bacterial infections which would include an UTI. If you are already taking amoxicillin for something else and think you have a bladder infection you should call your doctor to make sure you'll be on the meds long enough to clear it up. If it's leftover amoxicillin or somebody else's, don't take it.
Amoxicillin used to be prescribed for UTI's, but not so much any more because often the bacteria causing the UTI is resistent to amoxicillin. http://www.umm.edu/patiented/articles/ho...

If you do take amoxicillin, be aware that it causes increased sun sensitivity. You can get a terrible burn, so stay out of the sun.
Depending on how bad it is, if it is in the early stages, I usually go and buy a huge thing of cranberry juice and a box of AZO Standard.(Specifically for cleaning your system..) U can buy it over the counter. Try that first. Make sure when ur taking the AZO that you only drink water or cranberry juice. If the pain doesn't go away within 3 days, then take a trip to a doc.
P.S. If you're sexually active, make sure you pee after sex..It will wash out all the germs that haven't made it up your tract. (For future reference)
I'm not really sure why you are asking this? Did you have left-over amoxicillin from a previous infection of some sort and want to treat your UTI with it? If so... firstly, you shouldn't have left-over antibiotics, since antibiotics are to be taken completely until gone. Secondly... if it wasn't prescribed for you for the UTI, then you shouldn't take it. The physician will prescribe what is necessary. I've had UTIs before and they were mainly treated with the antibiotic Cipro.
