How is life after a total hystorectomy with both ovaries left behind?

I've heard that as long as the ovaries are still left in, you will not go through early menopause. You'll still go through menopause when you would have anyway (in your 50's usually). Your ovaries produce your hormones, so as long as they're left in, you'll still be the same as you are now.
But, you'll probably be in the hospital for about 3 days plus about 6 weeks at home afterwards for recovery. That can be very difficult with a 2 month old. In that 6 week time, you cannot lift anything heavy (10-15 pounds max I think) so you won't be able to carry your baby. Baby can sit on your lap of course but no carrying and walking around.
If you decide to do it soon, then I suggest you have someone to help you with the baby. Maybe a relative can move in with you for awhile or hire a nanny.
I hope you feel better.

Because your ovaries will be left in tact, there should not be too many changes. The obvious change will be that there will be no more periods. Hence, there will be no more PMS systems and things like that. You will go through menopause at the regular age as opposed to immediately. As far as the affect on your mothering, you will be sore for awhile after the procedure. It takes about eight weeks to totally heal from the surgery.
It may not be a bad thing to have this operation depending on what you are suffering with now.
Good Luck!!
