Extreme pms?

Question:
for two weeks every month my mom goes through this horrible stage during her period.
she gets terribly irritable and unfriendly.
her personality changes completely.
and she gets cramps that she says feels like contractions.
and she actually throws up at least once a day for about 5 days.
she lies in her bed and sleeps usually the whole time.
but i miss her so much during this time.
and i feel so bad because she's in so much pain and her doctor thinks she's over exaggerating and says everyone has cramps.
but she really is in great pain.
what can i do for you to make her feel better?
please don't say midol or anything like that it really isn't that easy.

Answers:
The emotional symptoms that you are describing could very well be something called PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I myself have PMDD, and it's a very difficult condition to live with. It's not just "bad PMS", but something so much more severe. Your mom needs to be treated for this, plus her severe cramping. She needs to seek help from a new doctor, as her current one is obviously dismissing her, and that is horrible.

I was dx'd with severe PMDD 4 years ago, after suffering a very severe case of PPD after my almost 5 year old daughter was born. I was on so many different antidepressants for the PPD, but when the PMDD came along, NOTHING helped it. It was a really desperate time for me. I was suicidal every month.

Back in October I began taking Yaz birth control, which has literally saved my life. I no longer take the other meds, except for an occasional Ativan for anxiety.

Here is an article about my personal experience... I warn you, it's quite intense.

And, here is some major info regarding PMDD...

Have your mom track her symptoms over on the Yaz website. If you find that your symptoms are possible PMDD ones, then she must find a doctor who will treat her accordingly.

I would try another doctor. for the cramps and physical problems you can take the birth control pill, it is excellent. for the mood changes, she can take some certain antidepressants, they work for many other things besides depression. for pms, you only need to take the antidepressants during the first 10 days - 2 weeks before the period, not every single day. they are still just as effective
She may want to start taking birth control, it can help regulate your period and reduce the effects of your period. I don't knowo what to tell you. As far as the vomiting, she could just be so nervous that she's making herself ill. I hope that you can help her with her problem!
It sounds like your mom has PMDD, which is basicly an extreme form of PMS. Maybe give your mom the idea of going to a women's doctor office? They specialize in this sort of thing.

For now, just leave her alone, and keep the house clean and tidy. Offer to do things like cook dinner, and whatever else she would normally do. She'll appriciate it. Trust me.

Good luck, and I hope your mom's pain goes away. Your in my prayers. =)
