Usually the pill is the one that costs less than the others. I've tried a few, and the pill was the least expensive and it works A-OK for me, so no need to change.
Even though they work and have their advantages...I find that all the shots, patches, and things like that are just too much, and have too many funky side effects. Plus, some of these new kinds they don't even know the long term effects of. If the pill is working for her, I'd suggest sticking with it. It's effective and COST effective.
It's really a personal preference though!
Your wife needs to discuss this with her gynecologist, as the different pills available can affect women in different ways, so there really isn't a way of anyone telling you what is better for her.
Some women get side effects, some don't. Some women get them severely, others just mildly. I'm on Yaz, strictly for PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), I don't need it for birth control purposes. Mine is covered by insurance, I have a co-pay of $20/month.
